Valerie Sutton

Valerie joined our team as a Medicaid Specialist Paralegal in July 2023, working with the contracted PACE organization, Senior TLC in Gastonia, and Shelby.   She helps to ensure the successful enrollment of participants by guiding families with navigating the complexities of Medicaid policy, procedures, and regulations during transition to a nursing home, assisted living or other skilled facility, as well as assisting with timely completion of Medicaid renewals. Valerie has over 37 years of combined experience in local and state government. 

Prior to joining Heritage Law, Valerie worked with Rutherford County Department of Social Services as a Medicaid Quality Analyst for 6 years as well as a Medicaid Specialist for Cansler Collaborative Resources for 3 years. Before those positions, she worked for 12 years as a Medicaid Program Representative for the NC Division of Health Benefits. She began her career as an Adult Medicaid caseworker with Haywood County Department of Social Services taking and processing Medicaid applications and determining benefit eligibility for all adult programs, including Long Term Care, Special Assistance and Community Alternatives Programs. Valerie also worked for over a year as a Medicaid Quality Control Analyst for the State of NC. Valerie’s dedication to the NC counties, the State, and the citizens of North Carolina, has been exceptional and earned her a highly regarded reputation. 

When she is not working, Valerie enjoys reading, camping (if there are hookups!), spending time with her family, church, and beach trips.
